Yingxian Wooden Pagoda: Imagine a building made entirely of wood – not a single iron nail – that has stood for almost 1000 years.

Last year, we packed our bags, and went to Shanxi, one of China’s most ancient and culturally rich provinces.

And by all of us, I mean really, all of us - from new hires to department leads. Because this is not a ‘reward trip’ for top performers only, but a group trip every WENDY® member can enjoy!

We walked through the breathtaking Hanging Temple, a monastery attached to a cliff face like it was held up by magic.

We stood in awe before the Yungang Grottoes, where thousands of stone Buddha statues have kept their peaceful expressions for over 1500 years.

We all know the Great Wall, right? But before this trip, we didn’t know that Shanxi Province has more sections of the Great Wall than almost anywhere else in China.

We climbed the Great Wall - hey, it’s called “The Thousand Miles Long Great Wall” in Chinese for a reason, of course some part of it even stretched across the Shanxi Province.

We explored the Pingyao Ancient city, saw 6000 meters of towering Ming-dynasty city walls, cobblestone streets worn smooth by centuries of wagon wheels, and more than 200 original shop fronts still standing exactly where they were 500 years ago.

And yes, we ate noodles, lots of, lots of noodles. Shanxi is famous for them, and our team conducted a highly unscientific but enthusiastic noodle tasting competition.

But Wait – That’s Not the Only Trip

In the past two years alone, we also traveled to Kinmen – with its magnificent strait views, cobbled lanes, local feature architectures and surprisingly good sorghum liquor.

No one had to write a report afterward. No one had to turn it into a “team building exercise” with PowerPoint slides.

We just went. We explored. We laughed. And we came back closer than before. Because shared memories build stronger teams than any PowerPoint ever could.

Following each company trip, our employees demonstrate higher levels of work engagement and stronger team collaboration. They return more engaged in their work and more collaborative with each other.

That’s the WENDY® way.
